The purpose of a Type 2 asbestos survey is to positively identify if a suspect material contains asbestos. The procedures used are the same as for Type 1 except that representative samples are collected and analysed for the presence of asbestos. If a material is positively identified, other similar homogeneous materials can be strongly presumed to contain asbestos. Less homogenous materials will require a greater number of samples.
